Random Thoughts from the Last Few Days

The tops of clouds fascinate me. I've seen the bottoms of clouds many times, but I see the tops so rarely. I guess I really don't know clouds....at all....

"My Friends Tigger and Pooh" is anti-intellectual pap because it doesn't have Owl. And since when does Tigger get top billing? And weren't Heffalumps better when they were unseen protagonists in league with the Woozles?

I've often been tempted to stop at the massage bar at Sea-Tac and see if they could get some stress out. Then I worry that Mrs. would find out I spent that sort of money on that sort of thing, and that would be a whole different kind of stress.

I think I'm really going to like my work with the WEA-PAC management board. It should be educational, and it's an awesome group of people to spend time with.

I feel a bit like a moron, but I only recently discovered the song "Joey" by Concrete Blonde. That's good music.

We had our field trip the other day, up to Green Bluff. The kids got to see how apple cider is made and pick a pumpkin out of the pumpkin patch, which absolutely made their day.

Recently reconnected with some old high school friends on my Facebook page. Mrs. thinks that I should do one for MySpace, too, but I think I'll leave that one to her.

I don't know if I'm going to go out on Election Night to a party, or just get the results here at home as they come in. The thought of wild revelry with 1,000 other Evil Liberals rather warms the cockles of my heart. Maybe I should have a union party....

It cost me $43 dollars to take a cab from Sea-Tac to Federal Way. $2.50 a mile. That should be my milage rate too, I think.

The thought increasingly seems true to me that, if you're not tired, you're not doing a good job as Union president. I've also heard it expressed that union presidents are like diapers--they should be changed regularly. I'm thinking a two-year run as president would be plenty.

(Yes, I also know the other half of that union president/diaper joke: not only should they be changed regularly, they're also both full of crap. I will not dispute that.)

24 days until the election. After November 5th I'll have a lot less to think about.

I wish McCain 2000 was running. That guy was pretty good.

Energy drinks are swell. A nice chilled Red Bull, a Monster in the green can....that's my coffee, right there. The only downside is that I can't make fun of what the latte drinkers spend when I'm chugging a $2.50 heart attack in a can, but it's worth it.

Took a personal leave day on Tuesday to go up to Republic and see how the parent's cabin is coming along. Beautiful country up there that I'm looking forward to exploring more.

FOOTBALL!

It's good to be the #1 team in the country, according to USA Today:

The team's practice field is better maintained than some golf courses. The team's stadium sits in a bowl, like that at Clemson University, and the scoreboard has a jumbotron. The team has its own film room, as nice as a college's lecture hall. But the program's biggest advantage is its shiny Olympic-style weight room and its full-time strength coach, Mike Srock.

By the way, that's a high school football facility. Holy Lord, but that is amazing.

Sounds Matters

And then I see it as just another challenge and say, ‘O.K., I’ll get ya one!’”

I’m guessing that’s why it connected so thoroughly with a radio guy like David Goldstein. I get a kick out of the idea of pathos from an engine, though I'm willing to bet there's an army of car guys out there going, "Yeah, I can imagine that."

This post has nothing to do with teaching or education

Because every now and then, it's good to talk about other things.

Loving this season of The Ultimate Fighter. I expected more out of Corey in his first fight, but I don't see how Dana could say that the other guy won it; Corey was clearly more aggressive.

That head kick that Gonzaga used to knock Mirko Cro Cop out was monster. Didn't see that one coming at all, but if St. Pierre can lose anything can happen.

So, Randy gets Gonzaga next, and I'll be damned if I don't think that Gonzaga beats The Natural to become the champion. After that, who knows? If Cro Cop comes back with a couple of wins, if Silvia actually puts out some effort, if Arlovski keeps going as he should....it's a heck of a division.

I like Around the Horn. It's good TV, and I don't care what anyone says Jay Mariotti is aces with me.

Provolone is clearly the best of all the cheeses. Really, I don't see any other cheese coming close.

NBC needs to give some of the shows in their 10:00 p.m. Monday slot a chance, instead of turfing them after a few weeks. I thought Studio 60 was a masterpiece that just needed time to catch on. The Black Donnellys would have worked better as a mini-series event. Wedding Crashers only getting three weeks shows that NBC is a network that is throwing everything they can out there and seeing what sticks, but they're doing it too fast.

The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion is as addictive as crack. I have about 180 hours into it now with my Dark Elf Vampire Assassin, and there's still hundreds of options for what I could do. This morning I routed Mancoran in his own house and now I'm ready to go back to the Imperial City, where I think it all goes down. I'll kill a goblin for you.

Arena Football is aces. I went to a game for our own Spokane Shock last year, and man is it ever an exciting environment to watch a game in.

I've gone 5 months without Pepsi. Switched to Coke instead. I miss Pepsi.
