Throw-Away Snark

Anyone who is basing their opinion on education in America based on Waiting for Superman is every bit as silly as the person who bases their opinion on global warming off of a viewing of An Inconvenient Truth.

Hi Ryan,

I've been following your blog for a couple of weeks now for an educational technology class that I am taking, and I've enjoyed reading your posts related to politics in education.

I feel similarly about the responses to Waiting for Superman. As a teacher, so many people have asked me for my reaction to the movie and are overeager to share their own. It is so frustrating because everyone thinks they should have a say in how the schools are run in this country - whether it is because they are a taxpayer, have a child in school, or even because they went to school themselves. Unfortunately, a lot of people do not pay attention to what is going on with education, until it's being presented in a widely talked about movie. The general public seems to believe that everything presented in the movie is in fact, true, just because it's in a movie. No one seems to stop and think about the teacher's side of the story, or realistically, how hard it is to make sure no child is left behind.

I just wanted to write to tell you that I share your sentiments and frustrations in relation to this movie. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and findings!

Laura
